WIKI"s

http://technoclue.wetpaint.com/

Just started this Wiki site. Not too sure about it yet. Will update and comment in the next few days.
I have added to my Wiki site.
Wiki for me is not a tool I would use within lower primary school. I feel that when you introduce students to new sites you should have explored it fully.
Comparing Wiki to a Blog in my opinion, Wiki is inferior due to the alterations that anyone can make on the site. I think for lower primary Blogs would be a lot simpler to comprehend and safer to use.

  1. Before this, I had never heard of a Wiki so I was not sure how it works or what it was. From what I understand a wiki is similar to a webpage where users can add to and modify content. Further investigation will help me to develop my understanding and shed some light on this very interesting ICT tool.

  2. I have created my own Wiki and found the whole process to be a waste of time, honestly. I agree with your point about wiki being potentially unsafe due to the fact that anyone can modify its content. Navigating through the website was also a challenging experience, which was quite frustrating.

I have been exploring the weebly program and would prefer to use this as an alternative to a wiki. This is due to the fact that it is easy to use and can only be edited by the administrator. In my own classroom, I would maintain a class blog with students to keep parents informed and use the website for project work during class time.

  3. I agree with you completely Kyle. Wiki I find is much more difficult to navigate and unsafe for students to view.
Class blogs or the weebly's, again I agree are more suitable to the learning activities that in the future would suit myself and students in lower primary better.

  4. I can understand your concerns regarding student safety as there is always that one who wants to ruin in for everyone else. It is my understanding though, that in order to edit the site you must first apply to be a member (and be accepted) by the person who set it up. So in a classroom situation, it would only be the students that would be allowed to join and therefore join in the collaborative learning. Obviously with any sort of collaboration, there may be issues between participants, but an important part of life is about learning to interact with those around us. I have been using a WIKI for another subject this term and it is becoming a great resource of information for the students within my discipline. At first it seemed hard to use, but with continued use became easier, and I can definately see the value of using it for collaborative learning in and out of the classroom.
